FIC Report (Kano State) – Kano State’s outgoing Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled, Aisha Lawal Saji Rano, has called for enhanced awareness among pregnant women to seek hospital care for antenatal visits and safe delivery. Speaking during the graduation and empowerment ceremony for rehabilitated Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) survivors at the Kwalli Rehabilitation Center, she emphasized the critical role of healthcare access in preventing VVF cases. The event was a testament to the Ministry’s efforts in supporting affected women.
According to Bintu Nuhu Yakasai, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Kano Ministry of Women Affairs, the rehabilitation program symbolizes a fresh start for the survivors, focusing on their economic empowerment and reintegration into society. She acknowledged the importance of creating a supportive environment where women can receive medical attention without stigma and urged continued commitment to addressing maternal health challenges.
During the event, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf provided financial empowerment of N30,000 each to 200 VVF survivors. The initiative aims to foster economic independence and rehabilitation, enabling the women to rebuild their lives. Saji Rano praised the support from the state government and encouraged the survivors to embrace this opportunity as a new beginning.
As she transitions to her new role as the Commissioner for Tourism and Culture, Saji Rano reaffirmed her dedication to the welfare of Kano State residents. Her legacy of promoting maternal health and women’s empowerment will leave an indelible mark on the Ministry of Women Affairs.
