
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON, has commissioned 75 newly procured vehicles aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, staff mobility, and the welfare and safety of students across Nigeria’s education sector.
The commissioned fleet comprises 42 ambulances, 23 Hilux vans, and 10 Coaster buses.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Abuja, Dr. Alausa said the initiative reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the welfare of public servants and the transformation of the education sector. He explained that the ambulances will be distributed to Federal Unity Colleges to strengthen emergency health response and ensure student safety, while the Coaster buses will serve as staff shuttles to ease transportation challenges and reduce commuting costs. The Hilux vans, he added, will be allocated to management-level officers for official use, to enhance logistics and monitoring.
Dr. Alausa noted that the project underscores President Tinubu’s deep concern for youth development ensuring not only safety and healthcare in schools but also comfort and welfare. He assured that more vehicles would be deployed in the next phase to cover additional institutions, describing the effort as part of the administration’s Renewed Hope in Action.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and proper maintenance of all assets, noting that each vehicle has been branded, fitted with tracking devices, and registered for effective monitoring.
The Minister emphasized that the gesture demonstrates government’s care for students and its commitment to creating safe, conducive, and well-supported learning environments. He added that, alongside quality education, the comfort and well-being of students and staff remain a top priority.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, described the commissioning as a milestone in strengthening education service delivery, improving staff mobility, and enhancing emergency response. He commended President Tinubu’s visionary leadership and the commitment of the Honourable Ministers in driving reforms that prioritize welfare and performance across educational institutions.
Mr. Enitan highlighted that the Ministry’s procurement processes reflect value for money and fitness of purpose, in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to effective governance and staff motivation.
The Director of General Services, Mrs. Vivine O. Watergrie, represented by the Deputy Director, Mrs. Judith Mama Moneke, explained that the vehicles were procured under the 2024 Appropriation Act and symbolize the Ministry’s progress in efficiency, transparency, and service delivery. She described the initiative as a demonstration of visionary leadership and dedication to creating a conducive working environment for staff.
Mrs. Watergrie emphasized that the acquisition underscores the Ministry’s focus on staff welfare and accountability and urged all stakeholders to continue supporting education as a vital tool for national development.
Also speaking, the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajiya Binta Abdulkadir, expressed gratitude for the fulfilment of promises made under the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing the development as a reflection of the sense of humanity and dedication to education reform championed by President Tinubu, Dr. Alausa, and the Permanent Secretary.
The colourful ceremony was attended by Directors, Heads of Departments, representatives of Mujaaf Automobile Nigeria Limited, Union Executives, and other distinguished guests, who commended the initiative as a major step toward improving operational efficiency, educational monitoring, and emergency response across the nation’s schools.
