FIC Report (Abia State) – The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti has declared his unwavering commitment to the advancement and improvement of education in Abia State.
The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu disclosed this during the official handover of the building his government renovated at Federal College of Education Ofeme Ohuhu in Umuahia North LGA on Thursday, April 3rd 2025.
He noted that his government will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that institutions in Abia State are not only well equipped but also serve as beacons of hope and progress for youths.
In his words “in Abia State, we recongise that investing in education is investing in our future. Today marks not just the completion of a project but a renewed commitment to the future of education in our state”.
Givernor Otti revealed that his government having recognized that investing in education is investing in our future, allocated 20% of 2025 budget to the education sector which he pointed out will not only enhance the learning environment for our students but will serve as a catalyst to academic excellence.
He implored the management of the institution to continue inspiring and nurturing the minds of the students and urged all stakeholders to take ownership of the facilities serious.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Provost Federal College of Education Ofeme Ohuhu, Dr. Titus S. Ezeme expressed deep appreciation to His Excellency Dr Alex Chioma Otti led government for the renovated structure and noted that the Governor is a leader with a midas touch, whose unwavering commitment to education and human capital development continues to inspire hope and progress.
He also expressed gratitude to the federal government for establishing the institution in Abia State acknowledging that it is a testament to the commitment of federal government to expanding access to quality education.
He appealed for continued collaboration with Abia state Government in making sure that the key infrastructures and facilities that are critical to full realization of our mandate as a teacher-training institution.
The Chairman Governing Council of the College of Education Ofeme, Hajai Rahia Adamu and the Registrar of the institution, Lady Felicia Coleman Ibe, in their respective speeches thanked his His Excellency for coming to the institution’s rescue and renovating the dilapidated structures irrespective of the fact that it is a federal Institution.
They pledged that Management and Staff will not relent in their efforts to revive the institution and bring it up to standard.
Highlight of the event was the official handing over of the renovated structures to the Officials of Federal College of Education, Ofeme Ohuhu Umuahia.
