FIC Report (Anambra State) – Anambra State Government has reiterated its commitment at ensuring that all products manufactured in the State meet approved quality and safety standards of the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON).
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Industry, Mr. Christian Udechukwu, when he received a delegation from the SON in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
Welcoming the team, Mr. Udechukwu commended SON for its relentless efforts in promoting standardization and quality assurance across Nigeria.
He emphasized that the Prof. Chukwuma Soludo led administration is determined to make Made-in-Anambra products globally competitive by aligning them with both national and international standards.
He stressed the importance of SON partnering with the Anambra State Government to develop trainings and capacity building workshops across different segments of the state’s manufacturing sector so as to equip, educate, and position them better in their craft of manufacturing products that meet the best global practices.
“Our administration believes in excellence. Every product made in Anambra must meet a defined standard that reflects the ingenuity and integrity of our people.
“Through this partnership with Standard Organization of Nigeria we will support local manufacturers to produce goods that can stand proudly anywhere in the world,” the commissioner said.
The leader of the SON delegation, Mr. Manji Pious Lawan, who is the Special Assistant to the Director-General/Chief Executive of SON on Strategic Support, said the visit was to strengthen collaboration with the state government towards promoting standardization in the manufacturing and construction sectors.
He highlighted SON’s commitment to ensuring that all products, especially those used in building and infrastructure development, meet approved specifications to prevent disasters such as building collapses.
“We are intensifying our monitoring and certification processes to eliminate substandard products from the market and to protect lives and investments,” Mr. Lawan noted.
Other members of the SON delegation include, the Regional Director, Anambra State, Mr. Gabriel Agafe; the Head of ICG for the entire South East, Engr. Ndukwe Unya; Mr. Celestine Ubaka; Mr. Buba Baunis; Mrs. Blessing Okata; and Mrs. Amara Ayamelu.
The visit marks a significant step towards strengthening the partnership between the Anambra State Government and Standard Organization of Nigeria in enforcing standards, protecting consumers, developing the capacity of local manufacturers, and enhancing the competitiveness of locally made products.
