Benue Assembly Orders Termination of Stadium Renovation Contract, Demands Fraud Probe

FIC Report (Benue State) – The Benue State House of Assembly has directed the Commissioner for Youths, Sports, and Creativity, Rt. Hon. Terkimbi Kyange, to immediately terminate the contract awarded for the renovation of the Lobi Stars Stadium.

This directive was issued during plenary on Tuesday, 6th May 2025, presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Aondona Dajoh.

The House further mandated the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Barr. Fidelis Myim, to institute a fraud case against Monimichelle Sports Facility Construction Limited, the contractor handling the project. The contract termination is to be executed within seven days.

In a separate resolution, the House agreed to notify anti-graft agencies to arrest and investigate the contractor for alleged mismanagement of funds. Additionally, the House summoned all officials in the Ministry of Works and Housing involved in the sub-contracting process—valued at ₦2.1 billion—to appear before the Assembly on Tuesday, 8th July 2025, and explain their roles in the contract.

Monimichelle Sports Facility Construction Limited was reportedly absent from the plenary and failed to justify the abandonment of the project after collecting ₦1.3 billion out of a total contract sum of ₦1.7 billion, yet completing less than 40% of the work.

The House also commenced its recess, marking the end of the third sitting of the second legislative session (2024–2025), and is scheduled to reconvene on Tuesday, 8th July 2025.
