FIC Report (Benue State) – The Benue State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, 18th February 2025, summoned the Director General of the Benue Homeland Security, Air Commodore Jacob Gbanwuan (Rtd.), to appear before it on 25th March 2025. The summons is in response to his recent comments regarding the killings in Kwande Local Government Area.
The decision followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Kwande West State Constituency, Hon. Pharmacist Thomas Dugeri. He informed the House that the Director General, in a recent interview on Africa Independent Television (AIT), refuted reports of the massive killings of people in Kwande Local Government Area by armed herdsmen.
Hon. Dugeri further stated that the DG’s public denial of the attacks, maiming, and killings of Benue citizens has sparked widespread outrage and criticism against the State Government.
Supporting the motion, the Member representing Kwande East State Constituency, Hon. Anyor Mato, and the Member representing Gboko West State Constituency, Hon. Mrs. Becky Orpin, condemned the killings and expressed shock over the DG’s remarks on national television. They urged the House to ensure his compulsory appearance to provide explanations.
