FIC Report (Benue State) – The Benue State House of Assembly, at its plenary session on Friday, 22nd August, 2025, presided over by the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, approved the suspension of four members from legislative duties for a period of three months.
Those affected include:
Hon. Alfred Aondoaver Emberga (Makurdi North Constituency)
Hon. Shimawua Emmanuel (Vandeikya 2 Constituency)
Hon. Cyril Ikong (Oju 2 Constituency)
Hon. Abu Umoru (Apa Constituency)
The suspension followed a motion of urgent importance, H.M. 17, moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Saater Tiseer, titled: “Motion to Suspend Hon. Alfred Aondoaver Emberga (Makurdi North State Constituency) and Three Others from Legislative Duties for Attempt to Cause Chaos in the House.”
Hon. Tiseer informed the House that on Wednesday, 20th August, 2025, members had unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the House and the Executive Governor of the State. He however expressed dismay that barely three days after, Hon. Emberga and three others allegedly mobilized colleagues to destabilize the peace and unity of the House.
The Majority Leader urged the Assembly to strongly condemn such actions, describing them as dishonourable and inimical to the smooth running of legislative business.
In their contributions, Hon. Elias Audu (Gwer East Constituency) and the Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Peter Bemdoo Ipusu (Katsina-Ala West Constituency), condemned the conduct of the affected members and supported the motion.
After due deliberations, the Honourable Speaker ruled that the four members be suspended from legislative duties for three months.
In further resolutions, the Speaker dissolved all standing committees of the House and announced new appointments as follows:
Hon. Elias Audu – Spokesman of the House
Hon. Douglas Ackya – Chief Whip
Hon. Kennedy Angbo – Deputy Minority Leader
The House also screened and confirmed the following commissioner nominees out of the nine submitted:
