Borgu Must Wipe Its Tears And Unite To Defeat Terror And Banditry

Grief and sorrow may not adequately convey the depth of my feeling in response to the senseless, deliberate, and murderous attacks on Kasuwan Daji rural communities in Borgu Local Government Area, just three days into the New Year.

With 42 persons, including women and children and the aged, dead; scores scarred with varying degrees of injuries, and homes razed, while an unspecified number were abducted, such unspeakable evil is nothing but a reflection of the depravity of the terrorists and bandits who have chosen to violently disrupt the accustomed peace and livelihood of communities in Borgu in Niger State.

My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones, just as I wish quick recovery to the many who were injured during the rage of atrocities. For the Farmer Governor of Niger State, His Excellency, Mohammed Umar Bago, these are no less challenging times. Let me register once again my unwavering support for the broad range of measures His Excellency has taken to bolster the safety and security of Nigerlites, especially those in vulnerable communities.

Only a fortnight ago, I issued a statement applauding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his exemplary leadership in ensuring the safe release of the nearly 300 pupils, students, teachers, and staff of St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri community who were kidnapped by terrorists that invaded their school premises, also in Borgu, on November 21, 2025.

I urge indigenes and residents of Borgu to be comforted by the express determination of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR in hunting down and bringing to justice those responsible for the latest heinous crimes against our communities.

Let us grieve, because we have lost our loved ones and our possessions. But I call on the Borgu communities to invoke their age-old spirit of resilience, wipe away their tears, and firmly resolve to never allow the lawless terrorists and bandits dictate their rhythm of life. As is evident, the merchants of mayhem are indiscriminate in their choice of victims, because they know neither Christian nor Muslim; nor are they targeting any specific ethnic group. Just anyone—Bussawa, Hausa, Kambari, Fulani—could be their victim.

We must, therefore, join hands with the security and defence forces to rout these undesirable elements who must henceforth be made to realize that Borgu can neither be a safe haven nor a theatre for their atrocities.
