FIC Report (Borno State) – The Acting Governor of Borno State,His Excellency Dr Umar Kadafur, has pledged the sum of fifty million naira to the Nigeria Legion, Borno State Chapter, as part of activities marking the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Week 2026.
Dr Kadafur made the pledge at the wreath -laying ceremony held, at Ramat square, Maiduguri.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Governor described the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day as a solemn and patriotic occasion set aside to honour the bravery, patriotism, and supreme sacrifice of officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces who laid down their lives in defence of the nation’s unity and territorial integrity.
He noted that the peace and freedom enjoyed today were earned through courage, resilience, and selfless service, adding that the sacrifices of the fallen heroes remain a timeless symbol of national service and love for the country.
Dr Kadafur stressed that the remembrance goes beyond fallen soldiers to include veterans who returned with scars of war,as well as widows and children who continue to bear the burden of loss. He assured that the Borno State Government would not forget their sacrifices.
The Acting Governor further emphasized that the Emblem Appeal Week is call to collective responsibility, urging Nigerians to support ex-servicemen, widows, and dependants of fallen heroes through tangible actions. He reassured that the state government would continue to prioritise security, peace, and the welfare of serving and retired military personnel.
He added that wearing the emblem should serve as a reminder of sacrifice, courage, unity, patriotism, and selfless service to the nation.
In his vote of thanks the Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Borno State Chapter, Major A.M. Tijani (Rtd), commended the Borno State Government for its consistent support to the legion and families of fallen heroes.
Major Tijani expressed appreciation on behalf of members of the legion for the donation and support received during the Armed Forces Celebration Day and the launch of the Emblem Appeal Week 2026.
