BPP And FRC Partner To Drive Transparency And Accountability In Government Procurement

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen collaboration and promote good governance in Nigeria.

The partnership aims to boost transparency, curb corruption, and reduce wastage in government procurement processes.

BPP Director-General, Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, FCILT, FMS, a working visit to the Chairman of FRC, Chief Barr. Victor Muruoka, at the FRC office in Abuja, where they both signed a Memorandum of Understanding [MoU], affirmed that BPP was part of the anti-corruption group assigned by President Bola Tinubu to curb corrupt practices in the country.

Dr Adedokun said that the MoU was to strengthen shared responsibility in supporting President Tinubu’s renewed Hope Agenda, and the judicious utilisation of government funds, to ensure that the three tiers of government spend within the limit provided by the constitution and the extant regulations provided by the agency.

Adedokun highlighted some key initiatives of the Bureau for promoting transparency and accountability to include digitisation of procurement processes effective March 1, 2026; community- based procurement; Nigeria First policy; debarment policy; and, affirmative procurement for women, youths, SMEs, and people with disabilities.

Dr. Adedokun also said that through its reform programmes and price benchmarking, the Bureau had saved over N1 trillion for the nation in less than a year.

FRC Chairman Chief Barr. Victor Muruako praised Dr. Adedokun’s leadership and emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in procurement.

Barr. Muruako stressed that the signing of the MoU was one of his landmark sign-offs as he prepared to round off his tenure as chairman of FRC.

He suggested setting up a strong and effective mechanism to strengthen procurement in the nation’s fiscal regjme.

He asserted that at the three tiers of government, transparency and prudence would bring less cases of corruption.
