The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has successfully hosted a high-level Stakeholders’ Consultative meeting in Kano, marking a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to modernise Nigeria’s procurement systems under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
The forum, held in collaboration with UK International Development and the Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE), focused on the Methodology for Assessing Procurement Systems (MAPS)—a global standard being utilised to develop a robust procurement reform strategy for the nation.
Addressing a diverse audience of contractors, suppliers, consultants, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and professional bodies, the Director-General of the BPP, Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, FCILT, ACFE emphasised that MAPS was critical to identifying gaps and implementing the President’s “Nigeria First” policy.
Dr. Adedokun said “our presence in Kano today [February 17, 2026] is a testament to our commitment to sub-national engagement.
“By applying the MAPS methodology, we are ensuring that our procurement reforms are data-driven, transparent, and aligned with international best practices.”
He said that MAPS Implementation and the detailed presentation on the assessment framework were designed to enhance efficiency and reduce corruption.
Dr. Adebowale said that: “The future of Nigeria’s development is tied to the integrity of our procurement,” adding, “We are building an engine for growth that is streamlined, digital, and patriotic.”
He reminded participants that “BPP is the regulatory authority responsible for the monitoring and oversight of public procurement in Nigeria. Its core mission is to ensure competition, transparency, and efficiency to God and Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, the BPP has announced that the next phase of the nationwide consultative stakeholders’ series will move to Lagos on February 26, 2026.
The Lagos engagement is expected to draw a massive gathering of the nation’s leading consultants and industrial stakeholders.
It will serve as a critical platform to finalise the regional inputs required for a truly National Procurement Strategy.
