
The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, ACFE, has tasked the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to take a leading role in procurement by setting the benchmark for practices within government agencies.
He made this call during a courtesy visit to the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu.
Dr. Adedokun emphasised the need for NYSC to become the standard umbrella for carrying out procurement, setting the benchmark for practices within government agencies.
He highlighted the importance of strengthening the existing partnership and engagement between BPP and NYSC regarding procurement principles.
The BPP DG discussed recent procurement reforms, emphasising a shift from viewing procurement as mere transactions or bottlenecks to an enabler of national growth and economic development.
Dr. Adedokun emphasised NYSC’s critical role in national development, viewing it as a unique scheme capable of building a patriotic, service-oriented next generation of Nigerians.
He stated that NYSC is crucial for nurturing future high-tech specialists, engineering infrastructure developers, agricultural industry leaders, and individuals who will ensure value for money.
The BPP DG shared the vision and direction of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the “Renewed Hope Agenda” for procurement reform and expressed gratitude for the warm reception by the NYSC Director-General, and management staff members.
NYSC DG, Brigadier Nafiu, welcomed the BPP DG and his team, thanking BPP for its support over the years, especially the recognition of NYSC’s procurement peculiarities.
He commended BPP’s responsiveness and patriotism, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the two agencies.
