The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) to promote fairness, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law in Nigeria’s public procurement system.

The partnership aims to enhance judicial understanding of procurement laws and processes, drive progress, and create new laws to support transparency and accountability.

Key initiatives include capacity-building programmes, annual lectures, seminars, and workshops for judges and stakeholders.

Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, Director General of BPP, said that “BPP’s collaboration with NIALS is a crucial step towards ensuring justice and fairness in procurement processes.

“By empowering the judiciary, we can prevent corruption and ensure value for money in public procurement.”

The Director-General of NIALS, Professor Abdulqadir Ibrahim Abikan, thanked the BPP DG for the Bureau’s impressive reforms and his commitment to overhauling Nigeria’s procurement system.

He said that Nigeria was blessed with brilliant brains capable of transforming the country, stating that Dr. Adedokun was one of them.

Prof. Abikan emphasised that concrete efforts were needed to empower stakeholders in the procurement ecosystem and enable them to understand procurement processes and the governing laws to minimise infringements.

He further requested the BPP’s support in organising procurement training sessions to familiarise judges with the latest trends and practices in the procurement system, and ultimately enhancing their effectiveness in adjuducating procurement-related cases.

The BPP-NIALS partnership is expected to yield significant benefits, including improved procurement outcomes, enhanced accountability, and strengthened public trust in government procurement processes.
