FIC Report (Abia State) – The Civil Defence Officers’ Wives Association (CDOWA), Abia State Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Ijeoma Aghukwa in Umuahia, Abia State.
The visit formed part of CDOWA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional relationships and promote collaborative initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and empowerment of women across the state. delegation was received in a warm and cordial atmosphere by the Commissioner, who expressed appreciation for the visit and described it as both timely and encouraging.
Welcoming the association, Dr. Mrs. Aghukwa commended CDOWA for its dedication to social development, particularly its focus on women and family-oriented initiatives.
She noted that partnerships with credible and purpose-driven organisations such as CDOWA are essential in advancing the Ministry’s mandate of promoting gender equality, women empowerment, and social inclusion.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the CDOWA Desk Officer, Mrs. Rita Nwaogu, explained that the purpose of the visit was to formally introduce the association to the Ministry of Women Affairs and to familiarize the Commissioner with CDOWA’s objectives and activities.
She emphasized the association’s interest in being actively involved and carried along in relevant government programmes, especially those centered on women empowerment, welfare support, skills acquisition, and community development throughout Abia State.
Mrs. Nwaogu further reiterated CDOWA’s commitment to complementing government efforts through advocacy, capacity-building initiatives, and support programmes designed to uplift women and families, particularly those within vulnerable communities.
In her response, Dr. Mrs. Aghukwa expressed delight over the visit and assured the delegation of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with CDOWA and other credible women-focused organisations.
She emphasized that such partnerships would help strengthen ongoing policies and programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of women in the state.
The visit ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism about future collaboration and sustained engagement in the collective pursuit of women development and empowerment in Abia State.
