To mark the 2025 Childrens Day, and in commemoration of Mr President’s second year in Office, the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has launched the Alternate Education and Renewed Hope National Home Grown School Feeding Programme for Out-of- School Children, held in Abuja on 27th May, 2025.
The project was launched in collaboration with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out of School Education (NCAOSE) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). NCAose will support the initiative with trained and dedicated teachers while NIMC will enrol the children into the National Identity Number (NIN).
According to the Minister, the collaboration stands as a model of inter- Agency synergy and national service.
“The launch represents the beginning of a new era in reaching underserved and vulnerable children cross Nigeria. Our aim is to scale this initiative to other settlements and communities nationwide, building a national framework for reintegrating our of school children into safe, structured and nourishing learning environments”.
Prof. Yilwatda called on stakeholders; State governments, traditional institutions, religious leaders, civil society, private sector and international development partners to rally around this initiative.
He commended the National Coordinator, National Social Investment Programme Agency, Prof. Badamasi Lawal, the Programme Manager NHGSFP, Dr Princess Aderemi Adebowale for making the initiative a success as well as NIMC, NCAOSE, Parents and caregivers and the children for believing in the promise of education. ” Investing in the Children is investing in the future. By equipping then with knowledge, nourishment, identity and care today, we secure for Nigeria a generation of enlightened, empowered and patriotic citizens,” he added.
Other dignitaries at the event include the Directors of the Ministry, Director General NIMC, Engr Abisoye Coker Odushote, Special Assistant to Mr President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Delu Yakubu Bulus, Executive Secretary, NCAOSE, children, parents and care givers, among others.
