FIC Report (Benue State) – The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Dr. Stephen Hwande, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, briefed journalists on the forthcoming 2nd International Health Investment Summit and Scientific Exhibition, and 2 Billion Naira Endowment fund for the Expansion of Therapeutic center for Autism and children with special needs.
The theme for this year’s summit is “Exploring Medical Tourism Potential at BSUTH: Prospects and Challenges.”
As part of the activities leading to the event, Dr. Hwande announced a free medical outreach for journalists to be held at the NUJ House, Makurdi.
Speaking during the briefing, the CMD highlighted the developmental strides of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s administration, noting that BSUTH now boasts over 20 specialized consultants, a 64-slides CT scanner, and modern diagnostic facilities that have significantly enhanced healthcare delivery.
He further revealed that the hospital runs a School for Children with Special Needs, including those with autism, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy. The hospital also operates a subsidized IVF centre, a VIP consultation unit, and a comprehensive pharmacy complex, while implementing a cancer care project to expand access to specialized treatment.
Dr. Hwande noted that BSUTH has established a Service Compact Unit to ensure optimal service delivery and commended Governor Alia for upgrading the Agasha School of Health Technology to a College of Health Sciences. He reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services for all.
He called on journalists in the state to actively participate in the summit, scheduled to hold from October 16-17 2025.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, expressed appreciation to the CMD for his visit and partnership with the media. He assured him of the continued support and collaboration of journalists in promoting public health awareness and accountability.
During the event, Mr. Bito Michael on behalf of the CMD presented cash awards to ten outstanding students of the Benue State University’s College of Health Sciences in recognition of their academic excellence.
