The Permanent Secretary of Innovation, Science and Technology Mrs Esuabana Nko Asanye has said that collaboration is key to reviving the Infrastructure of Nigerian Institute of Science and Laboratory Technology (NISLT) Abuja.
Mrs Esuabana made this statement when she visited (NISLT) Complex today in Abuja
The Permanent Secretary said that there is need for the Institute to collaborate with Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute, other sister Agencies as well as stakeholders to reinforce the renovation and restructure the building for optimum unitization.
According to her, one of the mandate of the Institute is to secure, safeguard and advance the professional knowledge and interest of science laboratory in Nigeria, maintain high ethical standard in Science Laboratory Technology practice among others, hence the need to establish the Institute in the six geo-political zones of the country to extend its reach across the nation for greater impact on our laboratory practices.
She commended the President of Laboratory Association of Nigeria, Mr. Omorilewa Ayotunde for his ideas, encouragement and support during the visit.
Earlier, the Acting Director General Nigeria Institute of Science and Laboratory Technology Dr. Peter Oluwafisoye, (NISLT) expressed his gratitude to the Permanent Secretary for deeming fit to visit and inspect the facility.
He said that one of the duties of the Agency is to secure, safeguard and advance the professional knowledge, efficiency and interest of science laboratory personnels towards the advancement of health profession and also to conduct research in all the areas of Science Laboratory Technology as well as conducting inspection of science laboratories in schools, post secondary institutions, industries and research institutes to improve professional standards among others.
He added that the Institute is expected to be an enviable institute in the country, but due to dingy infrastructure and lack of equipment the Institute is handicapped in carrying out its functions effectively.
He welcomed collaboration with government agencies, and private sectors that will bring about total transformation of the institute.
Speaking, the Deputy Director Reform Coordination Service Improvement and Innovation of the Ministry, Mrs. Emma Ekpo said that the the visit will guide the Ministry in solving the challenges faced by the Institute.
