FIC Report (Kano State) – The Senate Committee on the Review of the Constitution gathered for a retreat in Kano, where Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin delivered a keynote address. He emphasized the importance of aligning Nigeria’s Constitution with the aspirations and expectations of its citizens.
Jibrin stressed that the task at hand is to consider and recommend changes that will advance freedom, equality, and justice for all. He noted that these changes should ensure the Constitution remains a robust framework that unites Nigerians, promoting social cohesion and national unity.
The Deputy Senate President highlighted the need for synergy among stakeholders, including senators, the House of Representatives, the executive arm of government, state governors, state assemblies, the judiciary, and civil society organizations. This collaborative effort is crucial in building consensus on contentious issues.
Jibrin’s speech drew from his wealth of experience as a senator representing Kano North since 2015 and previously as a member of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003. His background in accounting and financial management has equipped him to chair key committees, including the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
As the retreat aims to shape Nigeria’s future, Jibrin urged stakeholders to remain committed to delivering meaningful reforms. These reforms will create a stronger, more inclusive, and progressive Nigeria, reflecting the collective will of its citizens.
The Kano retreat marks a significant step towards constitutional reforms, with Jibrin’s address setting the tone for productive discussions. As stakeholders work together, Nigeria inches closer to a brighter future, built on the principles of freedom, equality, and justice for all.
