FIC Report (Benue State) – Corps employers have been urged to take a more proactive role in mentoring and supporting the welfare of Corps members to enhance productivity and ensure quality service delivery.
This charge was delivered by the Director-General of the NYSC North Central Area Office 2, Brigadier O.O. Nafiu, represented by the Deputy Director (Operations), Comrade Abdulwahab Abdulasas Olufemi, during the 2025 Annual Corps Employers’ Workshop. The event was held at the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, Makurdi, on Thursday, 10th July 2025.
In his keynote address, Comrade Olufemi, who also chaired the occasion, underscored the objectives of the NYSC programme in promoting national unity, accelerating socio-economic development, instilling discipline, and cultivating a strong work ethic among Nigerian youths. He reiterated the importance of collaboration between NYSC, Corps employers, and Corps members to sustain the scheme’s relevance in nation-building.
He commended employers who have remained committed to supporting the scheme and encouraged others to play their part by creating enabling environments for Corps members to thrive. He also called on Corps members to maximize the opportunities provided during their service year for personal and professional growth.
NYSC Benue State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, described Corps employers as critical stakeholders in national development. She acknowledged their role in mentoring and guiding Corps members, while also highlighting NYSC’s partnership with the military, police, and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as part of its holistic approach to Corps member welfare.



Welcoming participants, Mrs. Garba urged all stakeholders to enhance their collaboration with NYSC, especially in supporting Corps members from disadvantaged backgrounds, to better align with national development goals.
During a presentation, Dr. David Immanuel emphasized the importance of mentorship in the workplace, noting that it promotes knowledge sharing, talent development, and organizational growth. He also called attention to the value of parenting support and mental health initiatives at work, explaining how such policies improve employee well-being and overall productivity.
