FIC Report (Delta State) – The need for Deltans to key into entrepreneurial development initiative of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s led administration and be employers of labour has once again been emphasised.
The Special Adviser , Entrepreneurial development, to His Excellency Governor Sheriff Oborevwori , Dr. Donald Peterson made the call while featuring at Delta NUJ Council weekly programme Journalists’ Hangout ‘Parley to Party’ held at the NUJ Press Centre Asaba the State capital.
Dr. Peterson noted that the era of white collar job has gone emphasising that Government alone cannot provide jobs for its citizens. He stated that when private individuals key into entrepreneurial development, there will be more companies to address the high rate of unemployment in the country.
According to the Special Adviser, Delta State Government has provided the enabling environment for businesses to flourish, emphasizing that as soon as products are produced, buyers are readily available through an established platform that brings together producers and marketers.
He stated that the State Government was committed to the well being of the youths regarding the problem of unemployment hence the State Government deemed it fit to provide necessary tools that would promote entrepreneurial development in the State.
The Special Adviser cited the production of rice in parts of the riverine areas in the State. According to him, government assists in provision of land and money to encourage the youths as a way of discouraging them from indulging in social vices such as cultism, kidnapping among others that are becoming alarming in our society.
Dr. Peterson therefore, called on youths in the State to take advantage of Governor Oborevwori’s laudable initiative to become entrepreneurs and employers of labour.
He further disclosed that his office is engaging in youths proficiency in Artificial intelligence (AI), adding that as a professional in the Information Technology development, he has initiated plans for higher institutions in the State to take AI as part of the curriculum development even as he noted that primary and secondary institutions in the State have included entrepreneurship development in schools aimed at providing self reliance after graduation.
The Special Adviser also stated that the pilot scheme will start with higher institutions and experts in the area of Artificial intelligence (AI) will train them and later the host communities will also be enrolled to study the rudiments involved in the aspect of information technology development.
Earlier, the Delta NUJ Council Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe noted that the weekly programme was designed to create a platform for journalists in the State to interact with major stakeholders as part of social responsibility of the media in holding government accountable, adding that the Special Adviser’s presence has helped to highlight Government’s efforts in promoting the welfare of citizens in the area of entrepreneurial development.
