The Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, has reiterated the importance of efficient service delivery and transparent procurement practices in achieving national development. He made this statement while delivering a keynote address at the launch of TRACKA’s 2023/2024 Report in Abuja.

Dr. Adebowale commended TRACKA, a project of BudgIT, for its relentless efforts in prom the gateway through which government services and infrastructure reach citizens. He stressed that without efficiency in procurement, service delivery would be compromised, hindering Nigeria’s development agenda.

Dr. Adebowale stated that BPP has taking proactive steps to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in procurement through various initiatives; Enforcing procurement regulations to ensure fair, transparent, and competitive government procurement, Establishment of procurement training institutes at FUTO, UNILAG, and ABU Zaria to develop procurement professionals, Conducting audits and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to specifications, and Resolving procurement-related complaints to foster fairness and competition.

He also highlighted the new BPP initiatives of a centralized digital operations, create a level playing field, enhance capacity development, and promote inclusivity in public contracts for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

The DG commended civil society organizations, particularly BudgIT, for their crucial role in monitoring public projects and ensuring funds are spent effectively. He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between government institutions, civil society, and the private sector to achieve sustainable national development.

Dr. Adebowale reaffirmed BPP’s dedication to reforming Nigeria’s procurement system, ensuring that public funds are wisely invested in impactful projects. He called on all stakeholders to continue working together to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in governance.
