The Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora has commissioned various capital projects at the Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State which he described as “a reflection of the Federal Government policy direction on proactive response to the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond in all Tertiary Health Institutions in Nigeria. Dr. Mamora while commissioning these projects counted them as additional landmark achievements and attributing them to the vision of the President, Muhammadu Buhari for the attainment of excellence in the area of healthcare.
The commissioned projects includes; An Infectious Disease Isolation Treatment Centre; a Molecular Laboratory; NHIS Complex; Drug Information Centre and Out-patient Pharmacy; Digital X-ray Machines; Upgraded and Equipped Intensive Care Unit; C-Arm Machine and other Theatre Equipment; Amenity Ward; Maternity Complex phase I; Foundation laying of Maternity Complex phase II; Fully Furnished 24 Apartment House Officers Quarters; Power House phase III and a Waste Management Site and Ultra Modern Flameless Incinerator.
The Minister of State for Health revealed that some of the commissioned projects were executed through the Covid-19 intervention fund, while others were executed outside the intervention fund by the board and management of the centre. He commended the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for the hard work put in place to bring the Infectious Disease Isolation & Treatment Centre and Molecular Laboratory to fruition.
Dr. Mamora further applauded the Board and Management of the hospital for executing the projects with high level commitment and probity despite the serious economic challenges experienced all over the world at this period of a global crisis. “This he said is a confirmation that FMCBK is reaping the dividends of democracy in line with the Federal Government desire for quality and affordable healthcare for the people of the state and beyond”.
The Minister of State for Health extended his profound gratitude to the State Governor for all the support and cooperation enjoyed by the hospital from his progressive administration especially in the area of primary and secondary healthcare delivery as well as the prevention and treatment of cancer. He revealed that the State has consistently mobilized medical specialist in various fields from within and outside Nigeria to diagnose, treat and operate various ailments affecting Kebbi indigenes of both low and high income status free of charge through outreach programmes.
He further charged the management of the centre on the critical importance of maintaining the commissioned facilities so as to enable them serve the people of the state for a longtime.
The State Governor Sen. Abubakar Bagudu who was represented by the Secretary to the Government, Alhaji Babale Yauri at the commissioning pledged his continuous support to the centre and thanked the FMoH and NCDC for deeming it fit to provide infrastructure and equipments to the hospital. He thanked the board of management of the centre for providing special healthcare services and prays that the commissioned project benefits the people of Kebbi State, Nigerians as well as other neighboring countries who may have reasons to visit the medical centre for treatment.
Earlier, the Medical Director FMCBK, Dr. Aliyu Balarabe informed that the hospital which is a leading referral centre in the state and other neighboring states including Niger Republic provides accessible, affordable and qualitative emergency care, inpatient care, outpatient care and other specialized services to its teeming patient population which has grown to over a hundred thousand outpatients visits and thirteen thousand inpatient admission annually.
