ABUJA (Min of Mines and Steel Dev Report) – The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Abdulkadir Mu’azu, has called on the Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to use his good office to mediate on the discrepancies emanating from the ownership of solid mineral deposits, in the States by the Federal Government and the control of lands in the states by State Governments, as provided in the Land Use Act, which has been hampering smooth mining activities in the country.
Dr. Mu’azu made the call when he led a team of Management Staff of the Ministry to pay a courtesy visit on the Governor, in the government house, Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, 18th July, 2019.
He expressed optimism that the Governor as the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, is fully equipped with lasting solutions on issues arising from the ownership of Mineral Resources and Land Use Act.
He further commended the Governor on his giant strides in resuscitating the Sector while he was the Minister ; he assured the Governor that the Ministry and entire ‘Mining family’ would never relent in consulting him for intervention when the need arose.
In his response, the Governor reiterated his commitment to ensuring that Mining Sector is not only made relevant but form the hub of the economy. He expressed his gratitude to the Ministry for upholding the legacies he left behind, through the gradual and consistent implementation of the Solid Mineral Roadmap.
Governor Fayemi further inaugurated members of the Committee of the State Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO) with Fiso Oluwole as chairman.
He assured the Management of MMSD that he will table the discrepancies in ownership of solid Mineral Resources and control of lands in the states to the Governor’s forum for deliberation.
