FIC Report (Edo State) – The Edo State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding Children, empowering Communities, and establishing systems that ensure no Child is Left Behind.
During the SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria’s Community Annual Town Hall Meeting held on February 25, 2026, in Benin City, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu, emphasized that the safety, education, and well-being of children are collective responsibilities that require concerted efforts from all sectors of society.
Represented by the Director of School Support Services, Mr. Ikoghode Abudukadiri, the Commissioner called for practical, inclusive, and Future-Oriented discussions that prioritize the best interests of children. He urged participants to leave the meeting with a renewed resolve to act as one voice in protecting and nurturing every child’s future in Edo State.
“History will remember that when our children needed us most, communities rose to the occasion, spoke with one voice, and chose action over silence,” he said. “Protecting a Child today is the most effective way to secure Edo State’s tomorrow.”
Hon. Dr. Iyamu also acknowledged the support of the European Union through the Strengthening Child Care and Protection Systems in Nigeria (SCPSN) project, which is instrumental in advancing Child Welfare Initiatives across the State.
Additionally, the Federal Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission in Edo State, Hon. Austine Aigbavboa, highlighted the importance of protecting Children from Maltreatment. He expressed concern over the mistreatment of children and affirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring their safety through free services and partnerships with NGOs to combat Abuse and Exploitation.
The Event’s Organizer, SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria, explained that the project is conducted in collaboration with the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC), Jireh Doo Foundation (JDF), and SOS Norway, covering Borno, Edo, and Plateau states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The theme for this year’s initiative is “The EU Strengthening Child Care and Protection System in Nigeria (SCPSN) Project.” Its goals include enhancing the enforcement of the Child Rights Law, promoting quality alternative care for vulnerable children, reducing abuse, and strengthening community safety nets and child protection structures in the participating States.
Stakeholders at the event also called for a robust security framework to safeguard children in Schools and within society, reaffirming their collective responsibility to protect the rights and future of Nigeria’s Children.
