Edo Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers, Recover AK-47 Rifle in Weekend Operations

FIC Report (Edo State) – The Edo State Police Command has continued to record significant operational successes through targeted intelligence, rapid response initiatives, and coordinated bush-combing exercises across the state. The latest breakthroughs were achieved in Esan West and Owan West Local Government Areas, following sustained security operations directed by the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the recent operations underscore the Command’s renewed drive to dismantle criminal networks, deny offenders safe havens, and reinforce public confidence in law enforcement across Edo State.

On Monday, 26th January, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m., operatives of Ekpoma Division, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a group of suspects engaged in vandalizing the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) pipeline passing through Uhiele Community, Ekpoma.

The operatives swiftly mobilized to the location and apprehended five suspects: Omoregie Osayi (39), Mathias Okhae (58), John Akheoumukhan (50), Akhabue Smart (65), and Godday Abumere (65).

An excavator used in damaging the pipeline was recovered at the scene. Efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects and recover the vandalized pipes.

In the early hours of Wednesday, 28th January, 2026, at about 3:30 a.m., the Command, in collaboration with tactical teams, the drone unit, the Edo State Security Corps, hunters, and vigilante members, conducted an extensive bush-combing operation across Idoha/Ewu Forest and other identified hideouts.

The operation led to the discovery of three suspected kidnappers’ camps and the arrest of eight suspects: Jokoro Sali (52), Buhari Ibrahim (32), Isah Abubakar (35), Shehu Ibrahim (25), Abdullahi Samar (18), Ibrahim Shaibu (19), Mohammed Joro (22), and Suleiman Sunana (35).

Five mobile phones suspected to belong to kidnapped victims were recovered at the scene. Investigation is ongoing to uncover the wider network behind these criminal activities and bring all culprits to justice.

On Thursday, 29th January, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m., a distress call from Egoro Amende Community, Ekpoma, reported the abduction of a farmer and his two wives while working on their farm.

In response, a combined rescue team comprising police operatives, soldiers, members of the Edo State Security Corps, vigilantes, hunters, and community volunteers under the Community Safety Partnership Programme swiftly launched an operation.

Through coordinated efforts led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ekpoma Division, the victims — Abraham Udewa, Brinda Abraham, and Anna Abraham, all of Benue State origin — were rescued unhurt.

On sighting the approaching security team, the kidnappers abandoned the victims and fled into the forest.

Recovered items include cutlasses, a solar panel, torchlight, canvas shoes, ropes, palm oil, and a face cap. Follow-up operations are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
