FIC Report (Edo State) – The Edo State Police Command has announced plans to prosecute 37 suspects allegedly involved in gender-based violence and child protection cases. This decisive action underscores the Command’s commitment to tackling these heinous crimes and ensuring justice for victims.
The suspects are accused of serious offenses, including rape and domestic abuse. According to Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika, the Command is determined to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions. Some notable achievements of the Command include:
- Arrests: 7 suspected kidnappers, 7 armed robbers, and 2 murder suspects apprehended
- Rescue Operations: 48 kidnapped victims successfully rescued
- Recoveries:
- 8 firearms, including AK-47 rifles
- 56 live ammunition and 5 expended cartridges
- 9 vehicles and 18 motorcycles recovered
- Other items, including POS machines and phones seized
The Command has also made significant strides in disrupting cult-related activities, arresting 38 suspected cultists and rival group leaders. Furthermore, it is enhancing its community safety partnership initiative through specialized training for police officers.
