Edo Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers, Recover AK-47 Rifle in Weekend Operations

FIC Report (Edo State) – The Edo State Police Command has continued to record notable successes in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes, following sustained intelligence-driven operations in Igarra and its environs.

Acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, operatives of the Igarra Area Command, on 28 January 2026 at about 1:30 p.m., arrested two suspected kidnappers along the Auchi–Igarra Highway. The suspects, identified as Muhammed Muamadu Haru (35) and Abubakar Muhammed Haruna (25), were reportedly recognized by a vigilante member as part of a kidnapping syndicate involved in a previous gun duel during a joint bush-combing rescue operation.

Upon being identified, the suspects attempted to escape into the bush but were swiftly intercepted and arrested by the patrol team. According to the Command, investigation into the suspects’ activities is ongoing.

In a related development, on Monday, 2 February 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., a convoy of motorcycle patrol officers from the Igarra Area Command successfully foiled another kidnapping attempt along the Auchi–Igarra Expressway. The patrol team encountered three suspected kidnappers who were attempting to block the road. Following a hot chase, the suspects fled into the forest, abandoning several items suspected to be used for criminal operations, including food items, mobile phones, jack knives, and other personal effects.
