FIC Report (Edo State) – The Edo State Government, in collaboration with Rotary Club International and other health agencies, has launched a campaign to eradicate polio, marking World Polio Day 2025 in Benin City. Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, Coordinator Office of the First Lady, Edo State, called for intensified sensitization and awareness creation on the importance of immunizing children against polio, emphasizing the need for collective action to ensure every child receives the polio vaccine.
The campaign features a free vaccination programme, with stakeholders pledging to ensure no child in Edo is left behind. The District Governor of Rotary Club International, Mr. Percy Okojie, reaffirmed Rotary Club’s commitment to advocating for a polio-free society, while the Oredo Council Boss, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, emphasized the Council’s readiness to partner with the Edo State Government and other health agencies to eradicate polio. A polio survivor, Mrs. Ann Ojugo, shared her story to encourage parents to immunize their children, highlighting the importance of vaccination in preventing avoidable disabilities.
Through this campaign, the Edo State Government, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, reaffirms its commitment to citizens’ health and wellbeing, aiming to promote collective action and ensure every child is protected from polio, keeping them healthy and strong. The campaign’s focus on sensitization and awareness creation is expected to increase polio vaccination rates, ultimately contributing to a polio-free society.
