Edo State Launches Three-Day Women’s Trade Fair to Celebrate 2026 International Women’s Day

FIC Report (Edo State) – In a vibrant effort to honor International Women’s Day 2026, the Edo State Government has officially inaugurated a three-day Mini Trade Fair aimed at empowering Women Entrepreneurs across the State. The Event, organized collaboratively by the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Office of the Edo State First Lady, commenced March 5th, 2026 at the Secretariat Complex on Sapele Road in Benin City and is set to run until the End of the Week.

The Opening Ceremony was marked by a warm Address from the Coordinator of the Office of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani. ably represented by Dr. Amen Ogbemudia, the Director-General of the Edo State Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability (DEQA).

In her remarks, she emphasized that the trade fair represents an innovative platform designed to unite and empower women from all walks of life within the state. Mrs. Anani highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering inclusiveness and promoting the economic advancement of women, noting that the event provides a unique opportunity for Women Entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services, thereby encouraging business growth and collaboration.

The trade fair is inclusive of a diverse range of women, from market vendors and artisans to professionals, underscoring the vital role that women of varied backgrounds play in societal development.

In her speech, Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah, described the event as more than just a marketplace. She portrayed it as a dynamic showcase of the creativity, resilience, and economic strength of Edo women. She reaffirmed that empowering women extends beyond individual support; it is a catalyst for strengthening families and fostering community development.

Mrs. Abdallah further explained that the three-day event offers an invaluable platform for women to expand their businesses and seize new economic opportunities. “This initiative is our ministry’s way of acknowledging the hard work and ingenuity of women,” she stated. “Your products exemplify the innovation that can propel our economy forward. We encourage visitors to support these entrepreneurs by shopping intentionally.”

To foster unity and collaboration, the Trade Fair also features goods and services offered at subsidized rates, enabling residents to acquire quality products at affordable prices. A significant highlight of the opening was a guided tour of the exhibition stands by dignitaries, including representatives from the First Lady’s Office and the Ministry of Women Affairs. During the tour, they interacted with Vendors, praised the quality of displayed products, and made purchases to further support the exhibitors.

This initiative underscores Edo State’s dedication to promoting Women’s Economic Empowerment and unity, aligning with the broader goals of International Women’s Day celebrations to recognize and amplify the contributions of women in society.
