FIC Report (Edo State) – The Elections Tribunal on Wednesday 2 April, 2025 delivered a decisive verdict that upheld the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo, affirming the clear mandate of the citizens of Edo State.

After an exhaustive review of the opposition petitions, the Tribunal dismissed all challenges, concluding that the electoral process was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act. The decision, announced on Wednesday, reaffirms the overwhelming support from the people of Edo State and validates the integrity of the state’s democratic process.

Governor Monday Okpebholo expressed his gratitude to the Tribunal for their thorough and impartial work, as well as to the citizens of Edo State for their unwavering support. In a statement, the Governor emphasized that the victory belonged not only to him but to all citizens and residents, underscoring a shared commitment to good governance, transparency, and inclusive development.

“This victory is a mandate to continue our efforts in building a state where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive,” Okpebholo said. “We must put aside partisan differences and work together towards a prosperous and united future for Edo State.”

In an unexpected move to foster unity, the Governor extended an olive branch to opposition figures, including PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo. By calling on all political stakeholders to join hands, the Governor stressed that the focus should now shift to addressing the challenges ahead and delivering on the campaign promises that resonate with the aspirations of the people.

The administration, now emboldened by the Tribunal’s decision, is set to forge ahead with its development agenda, leaving behind the distractions of prolonged legal disputes. The ruling marks a significant milestone in Edo State’s electoral history, highlighting the importance of judicial impartiality and the strength of democratic institutions.

As the state looks to the future, the call for unity is expected to play a central role in guiding the next phase of governance, ensuring that all voices are heard in the pursuit of progress and shared prosperity.
