In a groundbreaking initiative, the Federal Ministry of Education has launched the EDUREVAMP Communities of Practice (CoPs), a bold and strategic step towards transforming education delivery and professional collaboration in Nigerian schools.
Speaking at the launch and commencement of a focused capacity-building workshop for 80 carefully selected teachers and Ministry staff, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, emphasized the significance of the initiative. “This is more than just an event; it’s a milestone in our collective journey to transform education delivery and professional collaboration in our schools.”
Prof. Ahmad, a seasoned Professor of Science Education, explained that the initiative, under the larger umbrella of the Quality Education and Learning Outcomes Initiative, is aimed at building strong, digitally empowered, and connected professional communities. She described CoPs not merely as groups, but as “learning communities, hubs of shared knowledge, and platforms for sustainable teacher professional development.”
“With my many years in the classroom and in the field, I understand the challenges teachers face. I deeply believe in the transformative power of strong professional communities and how Communities of Practice enable us to maximize limited resources, especially the invaluable expertise and knowledge of our colleagues,” she said.
The launch of CoPs is a deliberate step to prepare for the rollout of the EDUREVAMP digital platform, which will empower teachers with 21st-century skills, reward their progress, and promote collaborative innovation.
Prof. Ahmad encouraged teachers to embrace this shift. “Very soon, learning online will come with both knowledge and benefits. Every completed module isn’t just a win for your classroom—it could be a personal win too.”
She further stressed the synergy between CoPs and the EDUREVAMP platform, noting that trained CoP administrators will serve as anchors and coordinators, supporting teachers as they engage digital training modules and fostering stronger professional communities.
“I commend the CoP Committee, inaugurated on 7th March, 2025, for laying the groundwork for this initiative. You must now ensure it is effectively domesticated, operationalized, and sustained across our education system,” she added.
In her vote of thanks, the Director of ICT, Mrs. Zainab Abubakar Suleiman, lauded the Honourable Minister of State for her clear directive to revamp education by building connected professional networks.
The event also featured a keynote by Prof. Tajuddeen Mustapha, CL4STEM Project Leader, who underlined the importance of connected learning in STEM education and emphasized the strategic need for building teacher capacity to promote equity and quality in the classroom.
The launch of the EDUREVAMP CoPs marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s education sector and signals the nation’s readiness to adopt innovative, collaborative, and digital approaches in strengthening teacher capacity and improving learning outcomes.
