FIC Report (Jigawa State) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over a total of N387,483,488 recovered from fraudsters to the Jigawa State Government, reaffirming its resolve to combat corruption and restore stolen public funds.

The funds, recovered from two suspects linked to alleged misappropriation, were formally presented at a brief ceremony held at the Commission’s Kano Zonal Directorate on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Acting Zonal Director of the Kano Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Friday S. Ebelo, who presented the bank draft, described the recovery as a testament to the Commission’s commitment to justice and accountability.

According to the EFCC, the recovery followed actionable intelligence from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), which flagged suspicious transactions involving the diversion of public funds.

Subsequent investigations led to the recovery of the full sum from the suspects, identified as Abdullahi Garba and Ayuba Sani.

The anti-graft agency disclosed that the suspects were arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations. Garba was convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty, while Sani is currently standing trial.

Speaking during the handover, Ebelo reiterated the EFCC’s unwavering dedication to ensuring that proceeds of crime are recovered and returned to rightful owners.

“The EFCC remains resolute in its mandate to investigate and recover proceeds of crime. This handover underscores our determination to ensure that funds meant for public development are not diverted for personal gain,” he said.

The recovered funds were received on behalf of the Jigawa State Government by the Director of Treasury Operations, Muhammad Haruna, who commended the Commission for its diligence and professionalism.

Haruna noted that the recovery would directly benefit the people of the state, stressing the critical role of the EFCC in safeguarding public resources.

“We deeply appreciate the EFCC for recovering this substantial sum. This effort reinforces public confidence in the fight against corruption, and the people of Jigawa remain the ultimate beneficiaries,” he said.

The development marks another milestone in the EFCC’s sustained crackdown on financial crimes and its drive to promote transparency and accountability in public service.
