FIC Report (Ekiti State) – Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Eribo has expressed his readiness in combating crime in the State.
He described border policing as one of the strategies his Command would adopt to check the infiltration of criminals in the State.
The Police helmsman gave the indication when members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, paid him a courtesy visit at the Command Headquarters, Ado-Ekiti.
Eribo gave an assurance that based on his diagnosis discussion with the State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, the Command was ready to redouble efforts in the fight against crimes to improve on where his predecessor stopped.
Stressing border with policing, he said constitutionally there was freedom of movement but that has to be checked to put unscrupulous elements on the radar, thereby, ensuring that lives and property were protected for the well-being of the society, adding that the Command has its officers and men at the borders aside their ubiquitous presence in the State.
On the possibility of criminals entering the State through the bushes instead of normal border channels, he acknowledged and commended the Ekiti State Government for putting some outfits like the Amotekun, Agro marshalls and other allied bodies in place to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.
He pointed out that it would help in flushing out the criminals from their hideouts.
Reacting to a question on missing persons in d the state, the police boss asserted that the primary step was to lodge complaints at the police where such case is documented. Then, the Police have the duty of swinging into action to unravel the whereabouts of the person.
Mr Eribo solicited the cooperation of the youths in the efforts of the Police to tackle social vices.
Similarly, he saw the media as a fundamental ally in the battle to curb society’s undesirable elements. Hence, there should be a good relationship between the Police and the Journalists.
Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi informed the Commissioner that his members and Police would continue to work as partners in progress in combating crime in the State.
Babatuyi explained that Journalists, as the watchdog of the society or the fourth estate of the realm, were stakeholders in national development.
He assured the Police Chief that Journalists would use their various platforms to project the Command’s activities.
Earlier, CP Eribo has assumed duties in the State having taken over the baton from Mr Akinwale Adeniran who has been elevated to Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG.
