Minister of Regional Development, Engineer Abubakar Momoh has expressed satisfaction with achievements recorded by one of its Agency, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Borno State.
The Minister who was on a working visit to the state, inspected a number of projects and thereafter spoke to the Newsmen on his impression of the projects. He had this to say. “The Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum was on official foreign trip when we paid courtesy call to Government House, but when we were with the Deputy Governor, we heard a lot from him on the activities of the North East Development Commission and he was full of praises for the management and Board of the NEDC for very meaningful interventions which they have done in the North East in general and today we set out early in the morning with a view to seeing for ourselves some of these projects so that at least we will have opportunity to appraise what the Deputy Governor said. I want to say in clear terms that, we have seen for ourselves starting from the network of roads from Gum to Kwashebe to Gadamari all those network of roads about 45km, opening up various communities that hitherto never had roads before”.
According to him, the joy on the faces of those communities made him feel very happy because it is the very first time, they are seeing roads. These are not roads destroyed by the activities of insurgents, these are fresh roads being constructed with a view to making life meaningful for people of that area, he said, stressing that these roads passes through major economic hubs of Borno.
“You will agree with me that the agricultural activities in that place will be further increased because access roads are there to carry whatever they have cultivated to neighboring markets”.
Speaking further, Engineer Momoh noted that in one of the communities, it was discovered that majority of the people there are not Borno natives, but from different communities across the entire country living in that area. “I think this is all what the Renew Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is all about, that is to promote economic activities of the rural communities without hindrance, “the people have actually demonstrated that what Mr. President has done for them will remain permanent and goes to show that to whom much is given, much is expected, I have no doubt in mind that by 2027 when the bell is rung, the whole of those people and other people in the area will cast their vote for Mr. President. Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
We have also seen the whole community established by NEDC in Gum where by people that were displaced and living in IDP camps are now being resettle, so 1000 housing unit that has formed a major community in that place. It’s a modern building – Two bedroom flat with water and all the facilities such as Schools, hospitals and police post.
The Minister acknowledged that staff of NEDC themselves needed befitting office accommodation to be able to put in their best. “we have visited their state office which of course the land was donated to them by the current Vice President when he was the Governor of Borno State and that place has been transformed and the building there by the time it comes on board it will become one of the best within that very vicinity and fantastic structure is going on there – 8 story building with a basement. “I think with all of these, I can assure you that this administration is focused and it wants the best for the people of the North East, we will support Mr. President in his second term in office.
If what we are witnessing today in NEDC is replicated in the other Development Commission, Nigeria will be great.
The Minister commended the president for the bold decisions he has taken, noting that, if such had been done 20-25years ago Nigeria would have been on high gear in terms of development.” If you want to eat omelette you must break an egg, you cannot say you want to eat omelette and you start to protect the egg”
