FIC Report (Edo State) – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commissioned borehole projects in Ogbe Community, comprising Ogbe Stadium, Ogbe-Ibuya, and Ogbe-Nogbon, on Thursday, October 30th, 2025, addressing critical water scarcity issues in a move that has been widely commended by the beneficiaries and the Local Authorities.
The Project’s launch was marked by a ceremony attended by Community Leaders, FAAN officials, and local residents. During the event, FAAN representatives emphasized their commitment to corporate social responsibility and Community development.
Commenting on the project, the Benin Airport Manager, Mr. Felix Abayomi Akinbinu (GIP), emphasized that the intervention reflects FAAN’s dedication to fostering the sustainability of its host Communities. He reiterated that the new water facility is anticipated to significantly reduce the Community’s reliance on unsafe water sources, thereby improving overall public health and hygiene.
Mr. Felix highlighted that the project’s alignment with regulatory requirements set by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Recognizing this critical gap, the Airport management made a collective decision and today their efforts have culminated in its successful realization to establish a community borehole that could serve as wider section of residents. Mr Felix reaffirmed that such projects are not only about infrastructure but also about building trust and ensuring harmonious relations.
In his remarks, a representative from Ogbe Community, Apostle Sylvester Ighide, praised the efforts of the FAAN management team, their dedication, and responsiveness to Community needs. He emphasized that the airport’s presence within their locality is aimed at fostering development and reducing friction.
Apt. Sylvester reaffirmed that the Community is open and inclusive, inviting more Community participation.
While appreciating, Prof. Starley Eke Orobator, Odionwere of Ogbe-Nogbon Community, expressed gratitude for FAAN’s proactive support, emphasizing that access to clean water will positively impact education, health, and economic activities in the area. He stated that the donation was an expression of affection for the people, making water accessible to the Communities. This project underscores FAAN’s dedication to fostering Community development and enhancing the quality of life for its host Communities across Africa.
The Initiative is expected to have a direct positive impact on the Community by alleviating water scarcity issues. It also symbolizes the strengthening of the relationship between the Airport and the Local residents, fostering mutual support and cooperation.
The ceremony was marked by a sense of accomplishment and optimism for continued collaboration. The team expressed gratitude for the support from headquarters and pledged to continue working towards projects that benefit both the Airport and the Community.
