President Muhammadu Buhari has recently, approved the appointment of Dr. Sadiya Nasir, as Medical Director, National Obstetric Fistula Centre (NOFIC) Babbar- Ruga, Katsina State for an initial term of four (4) years with effect from 23rd August, 2022.
The Honourable Minister of State for Health, Hon. Joseph Ekumankama while conveying the letter of appointment to Dr. Nasir, at the Federal Ministry of Health Headquarters in Abuja, urged her to consolidate and improve on the achievements already attained by her predecessors in the hospital to justify the confidence reposed in her.
Hon. Ekumankama hopes that the actions of the Medical Director while in office will be a reflection of the will of President Muhammadu Buhari, which is to achieve quality and affordable healthcare services for all Nigerians. “The primary desire of Mr. President is to ensure that we achieve Universal Health Coverage for all Nigerians. This is what has led to the enactment of the National Health Insurance Act (NHIA) making it mandatory for all Nigerians to be covered by the Act.” The Minister urged Dr. Nasir to work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders, for industrial peace and harmony to enable the Centre experience unprecedented growth.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Mahmuda Mamman while congratulating the Medical Director reminded her of the enormous responsibilities and expectation of the office. He advised her to be a team player as well as abide by the regulations governing the Centre.
Dr. Nasir in her response, expressed profound gratitude to the President and the Ministry of Health for giving her the opportunity to serve. She informed that annually, the Centre performs an average of 400 Fistula Surgeries in addition to other surgical procedures. Nasir, went further to say that her vision is to make NOFIC Katsina the first and best Urogynae Centre in Nigeria.
