……….Governor Okpebholo Leads Tributes on Remembrance Day.
FIC Report (Edo State) – The Federal Government has been commended for fostering unity and peace in the nation through the support and recognition of the sacrifices made by the Nigerian Armed Forces. Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, paid tribute to the patriotism, courage, and ultimate sacrifices of fallen heroes during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the nation’s unity and stability are direct results of the dedication and sacrifices of these gallant men and women. He described the event as a solemn reminder of the ultimate price paid by the armed forces to ensure the peace and unity currently enjoyed in Nigeria, adding that no honor could fully measure their sacrifices.
He urged Nigerians, particularly Edo State residents, to uphold the legacy of the fallen heroes by ensuring their sacrifices were not in vain. He also called for caution to prevent the recurrence of events like the Nigerian Civil War, underscoring the need for continuous efforts to maintain peace and national cohesion.
“Our fallen heroes served this nation selflessly and paid the ultimate price for its unity. Today, Nigeria enjoys peace and remains united because of their sacrifices. While we can never fully repay them, we must ensure that their sacrifices are not forgotten,” Governor Okpebholo stated.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the families of the fallen heroes, announcing plans to initiate and sustain welfare packages to alleviate the impact of their loss on the families.
The event, attended by top state officials, security chiefs, representatives of traditional institutions, and widows of fallen heroes, featured the laying of wreaths by Governor Okpebholo to honor the memories of the deceased.
