The Federal Government of Nigeria Commissions Mother and Child Hospital name Jacob and Grace Mother and Child Hospital in Ifon, Ondo State.
Delivering her remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs) Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire said, ‘‘In line with its mandate, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) has continued to implement or support policies and programmes aimed at fast-tracking the achievements of the SDGs in Nigeria’’ she said, they includes Health care and education service provisioning across the country as well as life – skills development initiatives.
The SSAP said, the three floor facility has two Operating Theatres, Recovery Rooms, Consultation Room, Private and General Ward, Scanning Room, Side Laboratory Room, Reception Area, Lounge, Nurses Room and Station, Doctor Call Rooms, Scrub Room and a Board Room. Stressing that, the facility boast of ultra-modern equipment that will aid the prompt delivery of Maternal and Childcare services, others includes; Patient Monitors, with ECO2, Suction Machine Double Jar, Ultra – scan Machines, Oxygen Generating Machines, Vacuum Extractor Delivery Set, Anesthetic Machine and Diathermy Machine, Also, an Emergency Card with a defibrillator, Baby Incubators, Phototherapy Lamps, Pediatric Ventilators, Multi Parameter Monitors for Mother and Babies, Crash Card, Theatre Monitor, Defibrillators and Fetal Doppler.
The SSAP-SDGs said, with Covd-19 pandemic challenging our health system there is urgent need to scale – up investment in the sector, she said the intervention is linked to the achieving SDGs – 13 on ‘Quality Health and Well – being for all’’ and other cross – cutting SDGs. Specifically, the Mother and Child Centre (MCC) aims to address the high prevalence of Maternal and Child Mortalities in Nigeria.
The SSAP-SDGs said ‘It is pertinent to note that, the SDGs cannot be achieved with stand – alone programmes or projects. They must be carefully mainstreamed into the policies and plans of the national and sub – national governments. It is therefore imperative that the state Government owns these strategic interventions and ensure their sustainability for the benefit of our people. Adding that, her Office is in partnership with UNDP, strengthening support to the states in the area of SDG – based development planning.
The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disastar Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq represented by Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman in her remarks requested the state Government to own the facility and monitor it implementation to sustain what the Federal Government has done.
The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu expressed appreciation to the President, Muhammadu Buhari for the Mother and Child Hospital established in Ifon, Ondo State, stressing that, it will go a long way in attaining good health and well-being of the entire community and its environments. He praised also, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire for making the project a reality. He prayed that more will be brought to the state. He promised that, the Government of Ondo State will own the hospital and sustain it.
