The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa CON has unveiled the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Digital Portal alongside the Strategic Vision for Nigerian Teachers, describing the initiative as a milestone in transforming education and repositioning the profession. He stressed that the portal represents more than technology; it is a commitment to recognize, empower, and support teachers nationwide. The platform will streamline registration, licensing, and renewals, track professional development, and serve as a national database for teacher performance and policy formulation.

Teachers across the country can now conveniently access the TRCN portal via www.trcn.gov.ng to register, update records, process licenses, check results, and print certificates from anywhere in Nigeria.

Dr. Alausa also launched a Strategic Vision anchored on five pillars: professionalization, digitalization, accountability, equity, and global alignment. He introduced a mandatory Teacher Ethics and Criminal Record Verification Framework to safeguard classrooms and strengthen integrity, requiring all teachers in public and private schools to undergo ethics and background checks. He emphasized that the reform is protective, not punitive, aimed at restoring dignity to the profession and ensuring quality education. Concluding, he paid tribute to teachers as “the true architects of the future,” urging government, private partners, and communities to work together in building a globally competitive and transformative teaching profession.

The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, described the TRCN Digital Portal as a step that redefines teacher professionalism in the 21st century. She explained that it will provide seamless registration, licensing, real-time professional development, and a transparent database of qualified teachers. Linking the innovation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, she emphasized that digitalization is essential for global competitiveness and national advancement. Prof. Ahmad commended TRCN’s leadership for foresight and resilience, noting that by equipping teachers with digital tools, Nigeria is empowering future generations.

TRCN Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, highlighted that the initiative is part of her 100-day action plan to digitize operations. She said the system will improve data management and resolve complaints over delays in certificates and licenses. With the www.trcn.gov.ng platform, teachers can now register, access results, and print certificates from their homes. She added that a service level agreement will ensure results of the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) are released within one week.

She also announced reforms to streamline the PQE curriculum from 23 subjects to five core areas: foundational mathematics, literacy, digital literacy, safeguarding, and pedagogy. By October, TRCN will launch an Artificial Intelligence-powered lesson plan generator to provide contextualized instructional materials. These measures, she noted, will drive a 50 percent increase in certified teachers, strengthen child protection, and align Nigeria with global standards.

On inclusivity, Hon. Mohammed Isa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, emphasized making digital platforms accessible to persons with disabilities, calling for screen readers, sign language support, and digital Braille in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

International partners also pledged support. Chikodi Onyemerela, Director of Programmes at the British Council, described the portal as a “significant milestone in transforming Nigeria’s education system.” Ian Attfield, Senior Education Adviser at the British High Commission, commended the initiative for enhancing data management, strengthening transparency, and boosting teacher motivation and performance.

From the private sector, Dr. Patrick Adeleye, CEO of TeckPlus Digital Solutions, recounted the 20-month journey of building the portal with TRCN. He explained that previously, Nigeria lacked accurate data on teacher numbers, certification, and qualifications, which undermined learning outcomes. He affirmed that the portal, developed under the Ministry’s Education Management Information System (EMIS) agenda, will eliminate bottlenecks and ensure timely access to certification and licensing.

The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirms its commitment to supporting Nigerian teachers as the cornerstone of national development. By embracing innovation, strengthening professional standards, and prioritizing inclusivity, the Ministry assures that this initiative marks the beginning of a transformative era where teachers are empowered, respected, and equipped to shape the future of Nigeria’s education.
