Federal Government’s National Housing Program Gains Momentum In Benue As Governor Alia Moves To Utilize 116 Housing Units

FIC Report (Benue State) – The Federal Government’s commitment to expanding access to affordable housing across the country has received a major boost in Benue State as the State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has taken steps to facilitate the utilization of housing units constructed under the National Housing Programme of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development during an inspection of the housing estate on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

During the inspection visit to the housing estate located at Tse Ukpahar, behind Welfare Quarters in Makurdi, Governor Alia commended the Federal Government for its continued efforts to bridge Nigeria’s housing deficit through strategic interventions such as the National Housing Programme.

The project, which consists of over 116 housing units built by the Federal Government, forms part of ongoing national initiatives aimed at improving access to decent and affordable housing for Nigerians.

Governor Alia noted that his administration is working towards ensuring that the housing units are fully completed and made accessible to residents of Benue State at affordable rates. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Federal Government to improve the welfare and living standards of citizens.

The Governor further disclosed that the Benue State Government is exploring collaboration with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) to provide mortgage financing opportunities that will enable public and civil servants to conveniently acquire the houses once they are made available for sale.

The Federal Government’s National Housing Programme remains a critical pillar in addressing Nigeria’s housing challenges, stimulating economic activities, and creating employment opportunities through housing construction and infrastructure development.

The inspection and planned completion of the housing units underscore the synergy between the Federal and State Governments in ensuring that projects executed under federal initiatives deliver their intended benefits to the Nigerian people.

The Federal Government continues to encourage states and relevant stakeholders to partner in maximizing the impact of such national development programmes.
