In a strategic move aimed at transforming the lives of women and children, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has joined forces with the Lagos State Government to tackle poverty, sexual and gender-based violence, as well as out-of-school dropouts.
The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, during her visit to the Lagos State Governor, His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Tuesday, stated that the partnership aims to promote entrepreneurship, creativity, and access to education, healthcare, as well as justice, thereby contributing to the socio-economic growth and development of the country.
She emphasized the Ministry’s avowed commitment to the empowerment of women and households in the country, explaining that so far, it had among others, distributed Industrial Sewing Machines, Garri and Cassava processing equipment to some States of the Federation, including Lagos, to enable the gender earn and contribute meaningfully to their family upkeep as well as the nation at large.
Kennedy-Ohanenye informed that the initiative of partnering with States on women empowerment and child protection by the Ministry is not only targeted at promoting sustainable development and gender equality but also creating a brighter future for them, in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration.
She commended the State Government for its gender-friendly policies, infrastructure, and programmes that create opportunities for women and children to access democratic dividends.
Responding, the Lagos State Governor, His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, welcomed the partnership, pledging his administration’s support to poverty alleviation, child protection and inclusivity.
He commended the Management and Staff of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Honourable Minister, Barrister Mrs (Uju) Kennedy-Ohanenye in particular, for their avowed commitment to the upliftment of the lives of women, children and the vulnerable in society.
