The Managing Director, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Nuruddeen A. Rafindadi OFR, FNSE, has said that maintenance of Federal Roads in Ekiti State is of great priority to the Agency.
The MD said this during a courtesy visit to the Agency by the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji recently at Abuja.
Rafindadi said the Agency was not unaware of the deplorable stated of federal roads in Ekiti State which has become embarrassing and needs immediate infrastructure to make the roads usable. He said “FERMA feels for you as the governor in your current task of making road work as dividend of democracy to your people, the deplorable situation of roads in Ekiti State is not only an emergency but embarrassing emergency. We will partner with the State to recover roads and make movement of people, goods, and services easier for the road users”
Speaking further, the MD said the Agency has funding challenges, saying that the fund the Agency gets is never enough, and is no where close to fund needed to be able to maintain roads across the nation but will identify possible roads in Ekiti State for intervention.
The MD appreciated the visit of the Governor and thank him for making FERMA his first point of call as a Governor. He pledged that the Agency will work very hard to keep the goodwill which the governor has established. Earlier, the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, congratulated the Managing Director of FERMA on the award received from the President lately and said it was a testimony of the good work the MD and his entire team is doing.
He said the purpose of his visit was to bring to the notice of the Agency the deplorable conditions of the roads in Ekiti State. He added that Ekiti State has been cut off from other States of the federation because of the bad roads.
The Governor urges the Agency to consider classifying roads in Ekiti State as emergency and give maintenance of the roads such attention. He commended the Agency for the support it has given to the State and ask that more attention be given to allow the government of the State to deliver on dividend of democracy.
Present at the occasion of the courtesy visit were the Executive Directors and Board Members of FERMA and other management staff of the Agency.
