The Federal Government has launched a strategic initiative to attract foreign investors into Nigeria’s Tertiary Institutions. The Hon Minister of Education Prof. Tahir Mamann revealed this at the ongoing 2024 Civil service week.
He stated that the move aims to diversify ownership beyond the traditional Federal Government control to include Private, State, and International Stakeholders. By opening public Tertiary Institutions to global investment, the government will enhance educational quality, infrastructure, and innovation which will position Nigeria as a hub for academic excellence in Africa.
This initiative is expected to bring substantial benefits, including increased funding, improved educational facilities, and greater opportunities for collaboration with International Educational Institutions. The Federal Government invitation to interested foreign investors is to explore the numerous opportunities available within Nigeria’s vibrant Tertiary Education landscape.
Speaking during the event the Head of Civil Service of Federation Dr Folasade Omolara Yemi-Esan in her opening remarks noted that The African Union theme for this year Civil Service Week celebration tagged “Education for An African Fit for The 21st Century, Building Resilience Education System for Increasing Access to Inclusive Life long, quality and relevant learning in Africa” underscores the critical role Education plays in shaping the future of The African Continent. She stressed that Education is the key to unlock the capability and the social economics transformation of the African Nation.
Also speaking at the event the Keynote Speaker, Prof. Peter Okebukola ,urged the Government to initiate programmes that will equip Nigeria Civil Servants with the necessary skills needed for the 21st Century such as digital literacy, teamwork media literacy and others.
The highlights of the event include the presentation of awards for the Online Essay Competition, in which Education Officers: Mrs Asiuloka Eucharia Nnenna Assistant Director and Omotosho Bukola Racheal, Education Officer secured both the 1st and 2nd position respectively.
