FIC Report (Abia State) – The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to unlocking the industrial potential of the South-East region, with Aba, Abia State, designated as the hub for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate on industrial development.
The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), which is spearheading the initiative, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to Governor Alex Otti at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South.
Chairman of the Institute and former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, commended Governor Otti’s strides in governance, describing the siting of the hub in Abia as well-deserved.
Speaking on the Federal Government’s vision, NIPSS Director-General, Prof Ayo Omotayo, explained that President Tinubu believes every region of the country is rich in untapped potential, but data revealed that the South-East stands out for trade, innovation, and industrial talent.
“Mr President believes that a whole lot of potentials exist in all the six geographical regions, and that we must unlock those potentials. For trade and industry, the South-East leads the way. Without doubt, this zone has the natural talent for factories, innovation, and industrial creativity. Based on evidence, Abia emerged as the hub for local inventions and content development,” Prof. Omotayo emphasized.
Governor Otti, in his response, thanked the Institute for resisting pressures from other quarters and aligning with his administration’s economic transformation agenda. He noted that the move fits seamlessly into Abia’s ongoing industrial reforms, including the establishment of an Export Growth Lab and the restructuring of the Enyimba Shoe and Garment Factories.
He also highlighted the vast industrial base of Ariaria International Market, which boasts over 60,000 shoemakers, underscoring Aba’s role as the heartbeat of local manufacturing.
Governor Otti pledged his government’s full support for the Federal Government’s industrialization drive, directing his aides to work closely with NIPSS to ensure the successful rollout of the programme.
With Aba as the hub, the Federal Government has sent a clear signal that President Tinubu’s administration is intentional about repositioning the South-East as a catalyst for national economic growth.
