The Federal Government has through the Ecological Fund Office called for peaceful and conducive atmosphere for contractors and handling ecological projects.
This call was mode recently by the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr. HabibaLawal in Gurku, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa state. During a sensitization and awareness creation among benefiting communities of the ecological projects.
Dr. Lawal who was represented by Director Soil Erosion and Flood Control Department, Engr. Felix Okeke stated that atmosphere devoid of rancor and acrimony would enable contractors deliver timely, good and quality projects for the benefit of the community.
The Permanent Secretary noted that the Federal Government embarked on addressing critical ecological challenges across the control to forestall, environmental degradation, loss of lives and properties. She therefore charged the people to cooperate with the contractors and avoid harassing them as peace and tranquility are necessary for timely completion of the projects.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman, Karu Local Government Area, Hon. Lawal Yakub Karishi, expressed gratitude to the Government for the intervention project which he noted would open up the area and improve the business activities. While urging the people to cooperate with the contractors, he promised that the Karu Local Government would provide security to the contractors for successful execution of the project.
The traditional ruler of Gurku, AlhajiJibrin, Waziri – Sarkin Gurku, represented by AdamuZubairuGurku expressed profound gratitude to the Federal Government for the Intervention project. He recalled that the road had been a dead trap and nightmare to the people especially pregnant women who had to ply the road when on referral to other advanced health centres outside Gurku.
The paramoment ruler pointed out that this intervention would change the fortunes of his community and pledged the support and cooperation of his people towards smooth execution of the project. He however appealed to the Ecological Fund Office to extend the road construction to Gurku town.
In their separate reactions during the interactive session, the leaders of the IDP camp, Mr. Yohanna Zediko and Mr Marcus Gamache and thanked the Federal Government for coming to their aid and promised that residents of the IDP camp would support the contractor to do his job.
The 8 kilometre access road was awarded to Messrs AH Properties & Construction Limited on May 27th, 2019. The site was handed over to the contractor on 18th July, 2019 with13 months completion period.
The sensitization and awareness creation programme was aimed at bringing the Ecological Fund Office contractors and consultants to meet the project benefitting community of Gurku with a view to building bridges of understanding among them.
The event was attended by officials of the Karu Local Government Area, traditional and opinion leaders of Gurku community as well as inmates of the Gurku Internally Displaced People camp with a firm resolve to support and cooperate with the contractor handling the road project.
