FG Charges Uromi Community On Ownership Of Project

The Minister of State, Budget and National Planning Prince Clemet Agba,has called on Uromi communities to take ownership of Ecological Intervention Project executed in their domain by the Federal Government through Ecological Fund Office(EFO).

 

Prince Agba, made the call at the occasion of the commissioning and handing over of the Uromi Road Rehabilitation and Erosion Control works at Okhele Esan North East LGA and Gully Erosion Control works at

National Institute of Construction Technology (NICT) Uromi, Edo state respectively.

 

The Minister stated that the projects were one of the Sixteen Ecological Intervention Projects approved by Mr. President for the third quarter, 2018 to address the devastating effects of erosion and flood menace in the communities. He maintained that the execution and completion of the project underscored the Federal Government’s concerted effort and sincerity of purpose in tackling problems of its citizens and making life more meaningful for the people. Agba, therefore commended ecological Fund Office (EFO), the project contractor as well as the consultant for their doggedness in ensuring timely and speedy completion.

 

Earlier in her remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Ecological Fund Office (EFO) Dr. Habiba Lawal said that the project was initiated through a request for urgent intervention forward to the office by Engr. Godwin  E.Ugheghele and the Management of National Institute of Construction Technology in order to ameliorate the continuous erosion flooding and other ecological challenges in their community.

 

Dr. Lawal who was represented by Engr.Udochi Nwachukwu a deputy director in EFO used the occasion to reiterate the need for the benefitting community to take over and exercise ownership over the project by

ensuring its maintenance and sustainability, adding that the resources which the federal government had committed must not be allowed to waste.

 

The Permanent Secretary while thanking the special Guest of Honor for finding out time out of his busy schedule to be part of the event, extended her gratitude to the executive Governor of Edo state, Godwin

Obaseki,as well as the Commissioner ,Ministry of Environment and the Uromi L.G.A Chairman for making the event a success.

 

While at National Institute of Construction Technology and Management (NICTM) site, the Rector of the Institution,Prof. Sunday Ohausi Onahaebi revealed that gully erosion was a major impediment to physical development, which prompted the management to request for an urgent intervention. He added that the execution of the project cannot be over-emphasized, as it had in no small measure created a community  awareness of the stability of the institute.

 

 

Highlight of the event were cutting of the commissioning tape and presentation of certificate to the benefiting community.
