FG Commemorates 2025 Commonwealth Day With Activities To Inspire Unity, Peace And Collaboration Among Nigerian

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, inspired Nigerians to imbibe Unity, Peace and collaboration to drive the Country while addressing members of the Press in a briefing held at the Headquarters in Abuja highlighting activities planned for the 2025 Commonwealth Day commemoration.

The Theme for 2025 Commonwealth “Together We Thrive,” underscores the resilience and commitment of the 56 Commonwealth nations to promote peace, unity, and prosperity.

As part of the celebrations, the Ministry has directed State Ministries of Education and Universal Basic Education Boards to ensure that all Basic and Secondary Educational institutions nationwide observe the day. Additionally, a series of engaging activities have been scheduled within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to raise awareness, foster critical thinking, and create a fun learning experience for Students.

During the briefing, Dr. Alausa announced that Students from selected Schools in the FCT are currently participating in a Dress Rehearsal for the Parade of Commonwealth Nations Flags, a symbolic procession showcasing national flags and cultural attire to emphasize diversity, unity, and cooperation among member States. Schools have also been tasked with supervising Students in creative expressions of the theme “Together We Thrive” through poetry, drama, and dance. The best three performances in each category will be showcased on the main event day, with winners receiving special recognition and rewards for their creativity.

There will also be a Youth Lecture on the 2025 Commonwealth. The theme that has been scheduled to educate young people on their role in fostering unity, peace, and collaboration across diverse cultures and backgrounds.

The main event will take place on Monday, March 10, 2025, with Diplomats from Commonwealth member States in Abuja invited, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to witness the creative presentations by adolescents and young people from selected FCT Schools.

Emphasizing the importance of this annual commemoration, Dr. Alausa stated, “The Federal Ministry of Education is committed to amplifying voices for collaborative learning, which drives knowledge, innovation, and sustainable development. Through these activities, we hope to instill in our young people the values of peace, unity, and mutual cooperation that define the Commonwealth.”

He further called on the media for objective reporting and wide coverage of the observance, stressing that their role is essential in spreading accurate information about the Commonwealth of Nations and the significance of collective growth and sustainable development.

Similarly in a vote of thanks, the Deputy Director Education Support Services, Mrs Eucharia Chime, thanked members of the press for coming and urged them to objectively and widely report the event.
