FG Commissions Road Projects In Old Karu Abuja

The Federal Government has commissioned the Flood and Erosion Control Project along Abacha Road, Old Karu, FCT, Abuja; and construction of 3-Cell Box Culvert and road improvement works at Abacha road, Karu, Nasarawa State recently  for the benefit of the community and its environs.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung, who represented  His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR; stated that the construction of these Road projects by the Ecological Fund Office in the Office of the Secretary  to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), has brought succor and huge relief to inhabitants of Old Karu community  with the elimination of gully erosion and flooding in previous years before its construction. The completion of the roads, he added, has raised the economic activities vis a vis raising the living standards of the community. Most  importantly, it has reduced the dangers to lives and properties associated with erosion and persistent flooding before the Ecological Fund intervention.

Furthermore, Barrister Dalung disclosed that the approval and completion of the road projects has reaffirmed the avowed determination of this present administration that no part of the country will suffer neglect owing to its geographical location or political affiliation, stressing, that primacy is attached to the  implementation of all genuine government policies, agreements and contracts at both National and international levels.

In her address, the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr. Habiba Lawal explained that the road projects are part of the Federal Government ecological intervention projects for the 4th Quarter, 2017 and 1st Quarter, 2018 respectively. The projects according to her, were initiated to arrest persistent erosion and flood menace in Karu community and to check further environmental degradation, loss of lives and properties, and that its commissioning and handing over to the benefitting community is to ensure its maintenance and sustainability.

In his remarks, the Esu Karu, His Royal Highness, Luka Panyam Baba, paid glowing tributes to efforts of the Federal Government  to forestall gully erosion and persistent flooding of his community through the timely  completion of this road project. He passionately affirmed that this humane gesture has saved the lives and properties of his people, besides improving their living standards and economic growth.
