The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to announce the successful deployment and formal handing over of four Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (TAC) volunteers to the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone. The volunteers comprise two Professors, one PhD holder, and one Master’s degree holder.
This deployment reflects the commitment of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to strengthening the bonds of fraternity and solidarity between Nigeria and her sister nations across Africa and the Caribbean. Established in 1987, the TAC Scheme remains a key pillar of Nigeria’s foreign policy, demonstrating the nation’s enduring dedication to South-South cooperation and Pan-Africanism.
The four volunteers carefully selected and equipped with expertise in law, medicine, and science, will be integrated into various institutions across Sierra Leone. Their mission is to support the human capital development goals of the Government and people of Sierra Leone through knowledge transfer, capacity building, and contributions to socio-economic development.
The official handing-over ceremony was held in Freetown on Thursday, 16th October 2025. During the event, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Nigeria, Ambassador Anthony John Ebipador, formally presented the volunteers to the Sierra Leonean authorities, represented by the Director of Education, Mr. J. Momoh.
The Government of Nigeria extends its profound gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone for their warm reception and continued partnership. We are confident that the skills and dedication of these volunteers will further deepen the cordial relations between our two countries.
This gesture underscores Nigeria’s belief in collective prosperity and a shared destiny. It also reaffirms Nigeria’s readiness to explore new avenues of cooperation for mutual development.
Speaking during the ceremony, Ambassador Ebipador highlighted that this deployment is a fulfilment of Nigeria’s longstanding bilateral cooperation with Sierra Leone. He noted that Nigeria has consistently provided development assistance and volunteers to Sierra Leone and remains committed to strengthening the institutional framework of the country in all ramifications.
