The Federal Government has launched a groundbreaking Youth-Focused Electric Tricycle Empowerment Initiative—another step toward building a sustainable, innovation-driven Nigerian economy.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Alh. Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, announced the initiative at its national unveiling on November 26, 2025, at Eagle Square, Abuja. He described the programme as a bold move designed to empower young Nigerians while accelerating the nation’s transition into a modern green economy.

Implemented by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in partnership with House of Destiny Global Services Ltd. and the National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NATOMORAS), the scheme introduces electric tricycles as a cleaner, smarter alternative in Nigeria’s transport sector.

President Tinubu praised the Ministry for its forward-looking leadership, calling the initiative “a practical demonstration of our commitment to empowering young Nigerians through modern, sustainable solutions.”

He emphasized key benefits of the programme which include:
1. Expanding youth self-employment and mobility entrepreneurship
2. Reducing transportation costs by up to 40%
3. Cutting carbon emissions and boosting Nigeria’s clean energy transition

“This is more than a transportation upgrade,” the President said. “It is an investment in our young people and in the future of Nigeria’s green economy.” He further highlighted the alignment of the scheme with his administration’s Energy Transformation Program, which supports the nationwide adoption of clean, reliable mobility technologies.

The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to placing young people at the center of national development. He noted that the initiative responds directly to the President’s directive to ensure both formal and informal youth benefit from transparent and inclusive government programmes.

He reflected on the fact that many young Nigerians—especially those in the informal sector—have long felt excluded from government interventions. The Tricycle Empowerment Initiative, he said, aims to change that narrative by recognizing the contributions of street transporters, artisans, and other informal workers, and integrating them into national growth plans.

“These collaborations strengthen our ability to deliver results that are impactful, sustainable, and measurable,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, the Director of General Services, Mr. Oluwole Joseph, described the programme as a movement that prepares Nigeria’s youth for a technology-driven future. He encouraged beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity and urged stakeholders to sustain their support to enhance the programme’s long-term impact on economic growth and environmental resilience.

The CEO of House of Destiny Global Services Ltd., Dr. Israel Olajumoke, highlighted that each electric tricycle introduced on Nigerian roads represents a new job, increased local economic activity, and reduced carbon emissions. With zero petrol consumption, operators can significantly boost their profit margins and gradually transition from riders to asset owners. He described the scheme as “smart economics and an environmental necessity.”

In his goodwill message, NATOMORAS National President, Alh. Buba Gwoza, reaffirmed the association’s dedication to improving members’ livelihoods and contributing to Nigeria’s green transition. He commended House of Destiny Global Services Ltd. as a trusted company with strong expertise in electric vehicle recycling and management.

The launch of the Electric Tricycle Empowerment Scheme marks a major stride in positioning Nigerian youth at the forefront of emerging green industries while promoting a more efficient and eco-friendly national transport system.
